What it is
Abnormal or excessive yawning that occurs more frequently than usual.
How it shows up
Frequent or uncontrollable yawning, sometimes occurring repeatedly without feeling particularly tired.
Why it happens
Stroke can affect brain regions involved in regulating automatic behaviors, including the brainstem and hypothalamus.
How common
Uncommon, but documented in some stroke survivors depending on the location of the brain injury.
Possible management
Medical evaluation to rule out related neurological changes, managing fatigue, and monitoring patterns or triggers.
