Survivor Tips from the Community

These ideas come from real survivors. Take what helps, leave what doesn’t, and always listen to your care team.

Start smaller than you think

On hard days, your ‘win’ might be getting out of bed, taking a shower, or doing 3 minutes of an exercise. Small wins still rewire your brain.

Ask for help like it’s a skill

Needing help doesn’t mean you’re failing. Practice asking clearly: what you need, when, and how long. Most people want to support you—they just need direction.

Rest is part of rehab

Fatigue isn’t laziness. Your brain is working overtime. Plan rest the way you plan exercise, and give yourself permission to stop before you crash.

Make things brain-easy

Reduce decisions where you can. Lay out clothes the night before, put important items in one ‘home base’ spot, and use timers or reminders to back up your memory.

Track tiny changes

Keep a simple log or notes app. Write down little shifts—an extra step, a clearer word, one less stumble. Progress is easier to see over weeks than day to day.

Find your people

Being around others who ‘get it’ can make the hard days less lonely. Use BrainStorm to connect with people who share your challenges and wins.
