What it is
A rare condition where a person experiences hallucinations, delusions, or a distorted sense of reality after a stroke.
How it shows up
Seeing or hearing things that are not there, strongly believing things that are not true, paranoia, or confusion about reality.
Why it happens
Stroke can disrupt brain regions involved in perception, reasoning, and reality testing, particularly in the frontal or temporal lobes.
How common
Possible management
Medical evaluation, psychiatric support, medications when appropriate, and reassurance in a calm, structured environment.
Rare, but documented in some stroke survivors depending on the location and severity of the brain injury.
