Orthostatic Hypotension
Tips from survivors: “I sit on the edge of the bed for a moment before standing—rushing makes the dizziness worse.”
What it is
A drop in blood pressure when moving from sitting or lying down to standing.
How it shows up
Dizziness, lightheadedness, blurred vision, or feeling faint shortly after standing.
Why it happens
Stroke can affect the autonomic nervous system, which regulates blood pressure and circulation.
How common
Possible management
Standing up slowly, staying well hydrated, compression garments, and medical guidance if symptoms persist.
Less common, but can occur in some stroke survivors, particularly with autonomic dysfunction.
