What it is
A feeling that the world around you isn’t real or feels distant, dreamlike, or distorted.
How it shows up
Surroundings may feel foggy, flat, or artificial—like you’re watching life through a screen or glass.
Why it happens
Stroke can disrupt sensory processing and perception, and may also be linked to anxiety or trauma responses.
How common
Not commonly discussed, but reported by some stroke survivors, especially during periods of stress or fatigue.
Possible management
Grounding techniques, reducing stress, rest, therapy, and focusing on familiar environments or routines.
