Neglect Syndrome

What it is
A neurological condition where a person is unaware of or ignores one side of their body or surrounding space.
How it shows up
Ignoring objects or people on one side, eating food from only half the plate, shaving or dressing only one side of the body, or bumping into things on one side.
Why it happens
Stroke damages brain regions responsible for spatial awareness, most often in the right parietal lobe.
How common
Possible management
Occupational therapy, visual scanning training, using cues or reminders to check the affected side, and structured routines.
Fairly common after right-hemisphere strokes.
