Mental Fatigue

Tips from survivors: “When my brain feels tired, I stop and rest—pushing through usually makes it worse.”

What it is

A deep exhaustion caused by thinking, concentrating, or processing information.

How it shows up

Feeling mentally drained after conversations, reading, problem-solving, or focusing for extended periods.

Why it happens

After a stroke, the brain works harder to perform tasks and reroute functions, which uses more cognitive energy.

How common
Possible management

Pacing cognitive activities, taking regular breaks, reducing multitasking, and prioritizing important tasks.

Very common among stroke survivors, especially during recovery.
