What it is

Reduced strength in an arm or leg after a stroke.

How it shows up

Difficulty lifting or moving a limb, reduced grip strength, trouble walking, or fatigue when using the affected arm or leg.

Why it happens

Stroke disrupts the brain signals that control muscle movement, weakening the muscles on one side of the body.

How common
Possible management

Physical and occupational therapy, strengthening exercises, repetitive movement practice, and assistive devices when needed.

Very common and often one of the most noticeable effects of stroke.
