What it is

A movement disorder causing sudden, involuntary, flinging movements on one side of the body.

How it shows up

Large, jerky movements of the arm or leg that can be forceful and unpredictable, often interfering with daily activities.

Why it happens

Stroke affects the subthalamic nucleus or related motor pathways, disrupting movement control.

How common

Rare, but can occur in certain types of stroke affecting deep brain structures.

Possible management

Medications to reduce involuntary movements, physical therapy, and safety strategies to prevent injury.
