Hemianopia

What it is
Loss of vision on one side of the visual field in one or both eyes.
How it shows up
Missing objects or people on one side, bumping into things, difficulty reading, or only seeing half of what’s in front of you.
Why it happens
Stroke damages the brain’s visual processing pathways, often in the occipital lobe or connecting regions.
How common
Relatively common among stroke survivors with visual pathway involvement.
Possible management
Vision therapy, scanning techniques, occupational therapy, and using visual cues or reminders.
