What it is

Changes or difficulty in the way a person walks after a stroke.

How it shows up

Uneven steps, dragging one foot, reduced balance, slower walking speed, or needing support to walk safely.

Why it happens

Stroke affects muscle strength, coordination, balance, and motor control needed for normal walking.

How common

Very common, especially in strokes affecting movement and balance.

Possible management

Physical therapy, gait training, assistive devices (cane, walker, AFO), and strengthening exercises.
