Eye Movement Disorders

Tips from survivors: “I use my finger or a guide when reading—it helps my eyes stay on track.”

What it is

How it shows up

Trouble tracking objects, jerky eye movements, difficulty reading, or eyes that don’t align properly (which can cause double vision).

Why it happens

Stroke affects the brain areas or cranial nerves that control eye movement and coordination.

How common

Can occur depending on stroke location, especially with brainstem or cranial nerve involvement.

Possible management

Vision therapy, eye exercises, prism glasses, or guidance from a neuro-optometrist or specialist.
