A reduced ability to feel or express emotions.
How it shows up
Feeling emotionally flat, disconnected, or indifferent—even in situations that would normally trigger a strong reaction.
Why it happens
Stroke can affect brain regions involved in emotional processing and expression, altering how emotions are experienced.
How common
Possible management
Counseling, gradual re-engagement in activities, emotional awareness exercises, and support from others.
Not always recognized, but reported by some stroke survivors, especially with frontal or limbic involvement.
