What it is

A neurological condition characterized by excessive joking, inappropriate humor, or compulsive pun-making.

How it shows up

Frequent joking, making puns or playful comments at inappropriate times, laughing at situations others may not find funny, or difficulty recognizing when humor is socially inappropriate.

Why it happens

Stroke can affect the frontal lobes—particularly areas involved in social judgment, impulse control, and emotional regulation.

How common

Rare, but documented in some stroke survivors with frontal lobe involvement.

Possible management

Behavioral therapy, structured social feedback, and support from caregivers to help reinforce appropriate social cues.
