What it is
Difficulty writing words, sentences, or organizing written language after a stroke.
How it shows up
Trouble forming letters, spelling words correctly, writing slowly, or difficulty expressing thoughts in writing.
Why it happens
Stroke can affect language processing areas, motor control of the hand, or the brain networks that coordinate writing.
How common
Fairly common, especially in survivors who experience aphasia or fine motor difficulties.
Possible management
Speech-language therapy, occupational therapy, writing practice, and using assistive tools such as typing or voice-to-text.
