Tremor

Tips from survivors: “Slowing down and supporting my arm helps reduce the shaking.”

What it is

How it shows up

Shaking in the hands, arms, legs, or head that may occur at rest or during movement, sometimes making tasks like writing, eating, or holding objects difficult.

Why it happens

Stroke can disrupt the brain circuits that control movement and coordination, including pathways involving the cerebellum or basal ganglia.

How common

Less common than weakness or paralysis but can occur depending on the location of the stroke.

Possible management

Physical or occupational therapy, adaptive tools (such as weighted utensils), medications, and movement strategies.
