What it is
Difficulty controlling or sensing body temperature normally.
How it shows up
Feeling unusually hot or cold, excessive sweating or reduced sweating, or trouble adjusting to temperature changes in the environment.
Why it happens
Stroke can affect brain regions responsible for regulating body temperature, such as the hypothalamus or autonomic nervous system pathways.
How common
Less common, but reported in some stroke survivors depending on the areas of the brain affected.
Possible management
Monitoring body temperature, staying hydrated, dressing appropriately for the environment, and medical guidance if symptoms are persistent.
