What it is
Difficulty sensing touch on one side of the body when both sides are touched at the same time.
How it shows up
A person may feel a touch on the affected side when it is touched alone, but when both sides of the body are touched simultaneously, they only notice the touch on the stronger side.
Why it happens
Stroke affects the brain’s sensory processing and attention systems, often involving the parietal lobe.
How common
Uncommon but well-documented in strokes affecting sensory and spatial attention networks.
Possible management
Sensory retraining, occupational therapy, and exercises that encourage attention to the affected side of the body.
