Right–Left Confusion

What it is

Difficulty distinguishing between the right and left sides of the body or space.

How it shows up

Trouble following directions involving right or left, hesitation when asked to move a specific side, or mixing up items like shoes or gloves.

Why it happens

Stroke can affect the parietal lobe, which helps the brain understand spatial orientation and body awareness.

How common

Uncommon on its own, but often occurs alongside other cognitive or perceptual deficits.

Possible management

Using visual cues or labels, repetitive practice, occupational therapy, and structured routines.
