What it is

A sensation of lightheadedness, unsteadiness, or feeling off-balance.

How it shows up

Feeling like you might faint, the room is spinning (vertigo), or difficulty staying steady when standing or walking.

Why it happens

Stroke can affect the brain’s balance systems, including the cerebellum and vestibular pathways.

How common

Fairly common, especially in strokes affecting balance or brainstem regions.

Possible management

Vestibular therapy, slow position changes, hydration, and using support when standing or walking.
