What it is

How it shows up

Difficulty concentrating, forgetfulness, slower thinking, trouble making decisions, or feeling mentally overwhelmed.

Why it happens

Stroke damages brain areas responsible for cognitive functions and disrupts how different regions communicate.

How common

Very common — many stroke survivors experience some level of cognitive impairment.

Possible management

Cognitive therapy, structured routines, memory aids, breaking tasks into smaller steps, and ongoing mental exercises.
