What it is

Persistent feelings of worry, fear, or unease after stroke.

How it shows up

Racing thoughts, restlessness, trouble relaxing, fear of another stroke, or feeling overwhelmed by everyday situations.

Why it happens

Changes in brain chemistry after stroke, combined with the stress and uncertainty of recovery.

How common

Very common — many stroke survivors experience some level of anxiety during recovery.

Possible management

Counseling or therapy, relaxation techniques, medication when appropriate, and peer support.
