What it is
A rare condition where a hand moves or acts without conscious control.
How it shows up
The hand may grab objects, undo buttons, or interfere with the other hand’s actions.
Why it happens
Stroke disrupts communication between brain regions responsible for intention and movement.
How common
Possible management
Occupational therapy, behavioral strategies, and keeping the hand occupied with an object.
Extremely rare, but documented in some stroke survivors.
