Quadriparesis
Tips from survivors: “Small gains matter—every bit of strength I rebuilt helped me move forward.”
What it is
Weakness affecting all four limbs—both arms and both legs.
How it shows up
Reduced strength and control in the arms and legs, difficulty walking, standing, lifting objects, or performing daily tasks.
Why it happens
Stroke affects brain areas or pathways responsible for motor control across the body, often involving the brainstem or large motor networks.
How common
Less common than weakness affecting one side of the body, but can occur depending on the location and severity of the stroke.
Possible management
Physical and occupational therapy, strengthening exercises, assistive devices, and long-term rehabilitation.
