What it is
Weakness on one side of the body.
How it shows up
Reduced strength in the arm, leg, or face on one side, making movement slower, harder, or less controlled.
Why it happens
Stroke disrupts the brain signals that control muscle movement on one side of the body.
How common
Very common—one of the most frequent effects of stroke.
Possible management
Physical therapy, strength training, task-specific exercises, and assistive devices as needed.
