Gerstmann Syndrome

What it is
A rare neurological condition involving a specific group of cognitive difficulties.
How it shows up
Trouble with basic math (dyscalculia), difficulty writing (agraphia), inability to distinguish left from right, and difficulty recognizing or identifying fingers (finger agnosia).
Why it happens
Stroke affects the parietal lobe, particularly the dominant (usually left) side of the brain.
How common
Rare, but well-documented in certain types of stroke affecting the parietal region.
Possible management
Cognitive therapy, occupational therapy, and using strategies to compensate for difficulties (e.g., labeling, visual cues).
