Chronic Fatigue

Tips from survivors: “I stopped fighting the fatigue — planning around it made life easier.”

What it is

Persistent, long-lasting exhaustion that doesn’t improve with rest.

How it shows up

Constant tiredness, low energy throughout the day, difficulty completing even simple tasks, and needing frequent breaks.

Why it happens

Stroke forces the brain and body to work harder, and factors like disrupted sleep, stress, and other side effects can worsen fatigue.

How common

Very common — many stroke survivors experience ongoing fatigue months or even years after stroke.

Possible management

Energy pacing, prioritizing tasks, regular rest, light exercise, and managing sleep and mental health.
