Amblyopia (Lazy Eye)
Tips from survivors: “I practice using my weaker eye in short bursts so it doesn’t get overwhelmed.”
What it is
Reduced vision in one eye due to the brain not properly processing input from that eye.
How it shows up
Blurry or weaker vision in one eye, difficulty with depth perception, or relying more on the stronger eye.
Why it happens
Stroke can disrupt the brain’s visual processing pathways, causing one eye’s input to be suppressed or underused.
How common
Possible management
Vision therapy, patching the stronger eye (in some cases), and working with a neuro-optometrist or occupational therapist.
Less common after stroke, but can occur depending on which visual areas are affected.
